I've Got An Incredibly Large Head

Well, I finally got off my arse and got a bit more serious about my acting/entertainment career by going out and getting headshots. I went with Suzanne Plunkett Photographs as a friend of mine Raj Desai went to her and had pretty good headshots taken. Her consultation was about an hour and fifteen minutes where we sat around her studio, looked at headshots, discussed my plans for those headshots, and what look I was going for. The experience was really relaxed and enjoyable.

Once I took the headshots, we shot a plethora of pictures. Out of the lot I took, only 1 was good enough in my eyes to be presentable. It wasn't the photographer but rather the subject being shot . I've gained weight and according to my scientifically determined weight for my age and height, I'm obese by 40 lbs. the pics were basically a wake-up call to tell me to get back into shape, and shed a few unwanted pounds so I can redo these in a few months. I do plan to go back to Suzanne for the new ones as well.

I sent the headshots off to A&B Photo & Print for touch ups and duplication. In my note to them, I asked for a few things here and there to get the picture looking its best. I am not going to try to misrepresent myself as a completely different guy, but there are a couple of things that could be done to uncover the hidden beauty of my face I look forward to seeing the before and after headshots.

Well, hopefully these headshots will garner the interest I'm looking for with agents. If I can get that set before October, that'd be swell!

Man...A GPS Unit Would REALLY Come In Handy Here!

I just finished watching Season 1 of Lost last week. I had voided watching it due to my initial feelings of hating something that is incredibly popular just because it's popular, i.e., Vanilla Ice in 1990. So, to allow it to be viewed upon its own merits, I decided to wait until now to begin watching it (I have yet to see Pulp Fiction because of the same logic ).

My interest in the show stemmed from the show Brazilian Wax Museum. There was a skit where me and a few others were on a raft drifting at sea and are contemplating cannibalism. We had a box of rations (protein bars) with "DHARMA Initiative" written on the side. I never really got the joke. All I knew was that it was a reference to Lost and left it at that. Later on I decided to look up the DHARMA stuff and found a wealth of knowledge online. It was totally conceived right up my alley. I like a lot of dystopian, government/society-vs-one-man-to-change-the-world type stories. 1984 is one of my all-time favorite books while THX-1138 is one of my all-time favorite movies that harbor this concept. Lost fit this mold, hence, I was incredibly interested in watching the show.

I have to admit that it's a very well put together series. It mixes science, religion, fear, tribalism, racism, prejudices, medicine, and herbalism with personal struggle and growth with multiple storylines that occur in different moments in time. Each storyline enriches the depth of the characters and supplies different viewpoints on the actions going on the island. It seems to me they spent a lot doing research on the culturalisms of the different folks on the island, thus, making the stories even more interesting. Although I've read the episode synopses for all three seasons, watching them is still quite enjoyable.

Well, onto Season 2!

Finally! A New Post!

Hi Folks:

Thanks to all of the technical difficulties with MySpace and its blogs, I've been refraining from posting up blogs because it just would aggravate me . So, I used the time to do other things.

After getting MySpace to fix my blog enough to see previous posts, I took 5 days of my life to back up my blog to http://nelsonv.blogspot.com. I really like the functionality that it provides you just like being able to blog via text message, manage multiple blogs from a centralized dashboard, and email your blog to you once you post it up. So, now I've got a couple of backups to each blog I've posted. I imagine that some day I will print all of these out, bind them up into a book, and sell it...or give it to my kids so that they can read why their childhood was such a weird time Depending on how Myspace goes with their future system crashes features, I may switch over to Blogger permanently. We shall see .

In other news, I've also been asked to join Second City's BrownCo and EdCo as an understudy. I'm excited and see this as a stepping stone opportunity to other areas of Second City. I'll be posting up dates that I get called into for the shows they've got going on.

Tomorrow I get my formal headshots. I've been growing my Hanna Barbaric Middle Eastern beard so I can shave cleanly a few hours before the shoot. I plan to get to bed soon so I am well rested before the shoot. Since I am so photogenical, I'll post up all 36 frames of fantastic shots up on MySpace! This picture is a good preview of the magic to be captured in the studio:

Well, that's about it for now folk. I promise that a more juicy blog will follow soon.

MySpace In Dire Need of MyHelp

I've been attempting to contact Myspace support for weeks to tackle my problem with my blog where you cannot bring up the entire blog but only individual ones like this one. Now, I realize that MySpace is designed for the non-technically savvy folks to be able ot interface with it, however, this hampers my ability to interface with the right people simply because my intelligence is being underestimated by the Help Desk. Here's the latest response I got from them regarding my quite specific explanation of the issue at hand (which is probably a simple database/Fusion interaction getting garbled):

Hello,
Below is a pretty comprehensive overview on blogs presented in a FAQ format. It should answer all the questions that you should have about blogs.

WHAT THE FAQ?! It ticked me off to the point that I made a Flash movie of the problem to canonically show them what the problem is. I bet I get a "What is your problem again?" response like previous interactions.

So, my Myspace IT brethren, if you can pay me $120K/yr with benefits, I would love to come over and help you guys get something going to get this fixed. This should be an easy fix.

Reviews of The Illiterate

MySpace has branched out and has started providing methods to promote people's books. The review of Brian "Head" Welch's book "Save Me From Myself", an autobiographical account of his life pre/post his tenure in Korn, seems very well written and thoughtful. It's open to comment by any MySpace user. Things go horribly wrong here with the MySpace Book Review Club. I love the kinds of comments people have left behind. Practically none of them have anything toy do with the book . My favorite quote is:

"Debunking Brian
Okay without reading this book I can point out a few things that make this book an absolutely worthless read. "

Oh Oprah...how your book club is completely safe from MySpace at this point.

Most of the replies discuss religion itself. When a majority of MySpace users are less than 25 years old, most of the discussion is going to be rants about about rejection, isolation, and hopelessness with religion and all the things associated with it. Let them get a few more years of experience and then see what they have to say about religion.

As Kurt Cobain once sang, "Teenage angst has paid off well. Now I'm old and bored."
